Courses cover social and economic theories of location and regional formation, hazards, vulnerability and environmental justice, and methods of spatial analysis and geographic modeling. Included concepts are the increasing globalization of the modern world, the role of the natural environment in effecting social change in different parts of the world, and the processes through which economic and policy decisions are reached. The program provides an understanding of how disease and health services vary geographically and the causes and consequences of these patterns. It also provides preparation for graduate programs in geography or public health, or for professional programs such as law, business, or planning. The undergraduate program in health and society is designed for students preparing for positions in government, nongovernmental organizations, international development agencies, and business. The health and society track requires a minimum of 15 s.h.
